The Best Time of Year for an Aerobatic Flight

The flying season runs April to October. A month or time of day cannot guarantee suitable weather. Choose an available date and leave room for a change if the pilot decides conditions do not allow the flight.

Month by month

MonthWhat to expect
AprilSeason opens. Cool, clear air and excellent visibility. Weather changes fast, so flexibility helps.
MayAmong the best. Smooth mornings, long days, good light, comfortable temperatures.
JuneLong daylight, reliable conditions. Afternoons start to get thermally.
July and AugustMost reliable weather, warmest cockpit, bumpiest afternoons. Morning slots are noticeably more pleasant.
SeptemberThe quiet favourite. Calm, stable air, gorgeous light, fewer people.
OctoberSeason closes. Crisp, still air and superb visibility on the right day.

Morning or afternoon

Arrange the slot around current availability and the weather forecast. Conditions can change in either direction during the day; a morning booking does not guarantee smoother air or prevent rescheduling.

What cancels a flight

The pilot assesses the conditions for the planned flight. Confirm arrangements before travelling and remain reachable in case the plan changes.

Buying in winter

Vouchers are valid for 12 months, and the flight is booked separately, so a voucher bought in December is flown in the spring. Nothing is lost. This is why an aerobatic flight works as a Christmas or birthday present in months when nothing is flying: you are giving the flight, not a date.

One practical note if you are gifting: resist the urge to pick the date yourself. Handing someone a fixed day invites the weather to spoil it, and the recipient can choose a slot that fits their own diary.

When to book if you want a specific weekend

Weekend slots in May, June and September fill first. If you are coordinating with people travelling from abroad or organising a group day, three to four weeks of notice makes the difference between choosing a date and taking what is left.

Frequently asked questions

When is the aerobatic flying season?

April to October at Radom-Piastow. Flights are conducted under visual flight rules in daylight, so the season is defined by weather and daylight rather than by the calendar.

What is the best month for an aerobatic flight?

May and September are the strongest, with smooth stable air and good light. July and August have the most reliable weather but the bumpiest afternoons.

Is it better to fly in the morning or the afternoon?

Morning. Air is smoothest before thermal activity builds, which from late spring onwards makes afternoons noticeably more turbulent.

What weather cancels an aerobatic flight?

Low cloud, poor visibility, strong or gusty wind and thunderstorms in the area. Temperature almost never does, and passing rain often does not either.

Is it pointless to buy a voucher in winter?

No. Vouchers are valid twelve months and the date is arranged separately, so a voucher bought in December is flown in spring with nothing lost.
