How to Prepare for Your First Aerobatic Flight

Before travelling, confirm the meeting time, check what to bring and read the participation requirements. At the airfield, leave time for equipment fitting and the briefing. Health concerns need to be discussed before booking.

The night before

Sleep normally and skip the alcohol. Alcohol lowers G tolerance and worsens motion sickness well into the next day, and this is the one variable fully within your control. Do not rely on a later slot to make flying after alcohol acceptable.

Eating

Follow the preparation information provided for your booking. Choose a light meal, and follow any individual dietary advice from your doctor rather than changing it for a flight.

What to wear

If you are worried about motion sickness

Aerobatic motion sickness is not quite the same as car or boat sickness, and people who suffer from one do not necessarily suffer from the other. Three things help:

Discuss medication with a doctor before the flight. Do not treat travel-sickness medication as a way to make aerobatics suitable for you.

What happens on the day

  1. Arrive about 20 minutes before your slot. Free parking, and spectators are welcome.
  2. Paperwork, including the safety statement. Under-18s need a parent or guardian to sign on site.
  3. Briefing: the figures, the breathing technique, the harness, the parachute, and how to say stop.
  4. Kit up: parachute and helmet. The pilot checks your harness personally.
  5. The flight, 10 or 20 minutes in the air depending on the package.
  6. Debrief, flight certificate, and your video if you ordered one.

Total time on site is roughly 90 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What should I eat before an aerobatic flight?

Something light about two hours beforehand, such as toast, a banana or yoghurt. Do not fly on an empty stomach and do not fly straight after a heavy meal. Stay well hydrated, because dehydration lowers G tolerance.

What should I wear for an aerobatic flight?

Comfortable clothes you can move in, plus flat shoes such as trainers. You fly in your own clothes; a flight suit is included in the Ty Sterujesz package. Loose items including watches, phones and jewellery must be left behind, because anything unsecured becomes a projectile under negative G.

What if I get motion sickness?

Follow the briefing and tell the pilot at the first sign of discomfort or visual changes. The pilot will adjust the programme when it is safe to do so; continuing the figures is not guaranteed.

How early should I arrive?

About 20 minutes before your slot. Total time at the airfield is roughly 90 minutes including paperwork, briefing, the flight and the debrief.

Can I book the onboard video on the day?

Ask before the flight so recording can be arranged. Availability after the flight depends on whether footage exists and has been retained. Video for couples is arranged separately via WhatsApp.
