Things to Do Near Warsaw
The flight takes about ninety minutes including briefing, and the drive from Warsaw is another ninety each way. Most people turn that into a half day and go home. The area rewards staying a little longer.
At the airfield
Radom-Piastów (EPRP) is a working airfield rather than a visitor attraction, but there is a bar, free parking, and something happening on the apron most days of the season. Spectators are welcome at no charge, and the aerobatic box sits next to the field, so anybody not flying still sees the whole sequence.
Radom itself
Fifteen minutes from the airfield. The old town square has been restored, there is a good open-air museum of rural architecture on the edge of the city, and the aviation connection runs deep here: the city hosted Poland's largest airshow for years and the aviation industry has been part of it for a century.
Between Radom and Warsaw
- Czarnolas, the home of the Renaissance poet Jan Kochanowski, with a museum in the manor house. Quiet, and central to Polish literature in a way hard to overstate.
- Kozienice forest, good walking and cycling, easy detour off the S7.
- Warka, with the Kazimierz Pulaski museum, which connects neatly to the American Revolution and to the badge on our aeroplane.
- Chlewiska, a preserved nineteenth-century ironworks, unusual and underrated.
Further out, if you have a full day
Kazimierz Dolny, about 90 minutes east, is the prettiest small town in this part of Poland and the standard weekend destination for anybody who lives in Warsaw. Sandomierz, a similar distance south, has an old town most visitors are surprised by.
